United Nations + UnSplash: A Visual PSA System for the Internet

Overview

The United Nations is standing up in the fight against COVID-19 in different ways. One of the many ways adopted by the United Nations is to get help coming up with visuals that they came up with a few weeks ago in a Global Open Brief.

The UN’s Challenge

“Our greatest villain right now is not the COVID-19 virus itself, it’s fear, rumors, and stigma.” says the chief of WHO Dr. Tedros. The two factors the UN have identified as being “two of the biggest challenges we must overcome” are fear and misinformation. During this crisis, the UN is inviting designers to help smash these myths with creativity. To help support the work, here is a document detailing all of WHO’s myth busters.

“We are in an unprecedented situation and the normal rules no longer apply. We cannot resort to the usual tools in such unusual times. The creativity of the responses must match the unique nature of this crisis — the magnitude of the responses must match its scale.”

UN Secretary General, António Guterres

There were several submissions to the open brief that came from everywhere but with limited coverage.

The UnSplash is now turning into a visual Public Service Announcement System for the UN with an aim to get these visuals seen by 1 billion people in the next 30 days.‬
